How to Check if mod_rewrite is Enabled on your Server

i installed joombla on my server yesterday and there is a feature for friendly urls. so i was breaking my head why the feature was not working on my site. it turns out i did not have mod rewrite on my site.

i have never heard of mod rewrite. the more i researched the more i learned that its a way to make php urls into html.

for example, if i have a page with the url like this:
http://www.example.com/topic.php?id=12

i can actually have it make it like this:
http://www.example.com/12.html

so as i learned about it, i wanted to test if mod rewrite was enabled on my server. so i googled it and found this site, it is very helpful so i wanted to share with you guys if you ever need help with checking if you have mod rewrite installed or enabled on your server, this help you in testing if modrewrite works or not. its amazing, the detailed instructions. you are going to like it too. they deserve some hands up!!!
